Application of indium in gas-sensitive materials

Indium oxide is an important n-type semiconductor with a direct bandgap of 3.55~3.75 ev and an indirect bandgap of 2.5 ev. It has a wide bandgap, a small resistivity, and a high catalytic activity. It is widely used in the fields of photocatalysis, sensors, and light-emitting diodes. Indium trioxide exhibits sensitivity to many oxidizing or reducing gases and even has better properties in some respects than gas-sensitive materials such as SnO2, ZnO, Fe2O3. Gas sensors are one of the most promising areas in which nanomaterials are available, and their core materials are gas-sensitive materials. Nanomaterials have unique properties that are not conventionally available, exhibiting strange mechanical, electrical, optical, magnetic, thermal, chemical, and superconducting properties. It has important application value in the fields of national defense, electronics, chemical, metallurgy, light industry, aviation, ceramics, nuclear technology, catalyst, medicine and so on. The application of nanotechnology to the preparation of gas sensing materials can greatly improve the performance of gas sensors.

In recent years, some progress has been made in the preparation and performance of indium oxide nanomaterials. Researchers have prepared various nanostructures of indium oxide materials through various physical and chemical methods. Currently, indium oxide is mostly prepared by the liquid phase method. Commonly used methods for preparing nanomaterials, such as coprecipitation, homogeneous precipitation, inorganic salt decomposition, and metal alkoxide hydrolysis. Hydrothermal methods, solvothermal methods, sol-gel methods, microemulsion methods, etc., can also be used to synthesize indium oxide nanomaterials.
