Indium-based solder

Time: 2019-09-06

Indium has a low melting point (157 ° C) and can form a series of low-melting eutectic solders with elements such as Sn, Pb, Ag, etc., which can avoid the influence of high-temperature factors on the product during the package soldering process. Indium-based solder has an alkaline medium. It has high corrosion resistance and a good wetting ability for both metal and non-metal. The formed solder joint has the advantages of low resistance and high plasticity and can be used for matching packages of materials with different thermal expansion coefficients. Therefore, indium-based solders are mainly used in packages of electric vacuum devices, glass, ceramics, and low-temperature superconducting devices. Pure indium and indium-based alloy solders have excellent thermal conductivity, low melting point, excellent softness, and ductility, and are commonly used for joining materials such as ceramic components to PCBs and thermally conductive materials.

Indium-based solder has good physical properties, and its solder joint has good fatigue resistance, mechanical strength, and reliable elongation. It has high corrosion resistance to alkaline and salt media and is suitable for welding Chlor-alkali industrial equipment. At the same time, its conductivity is high. The indium-based solder has close and higher conductivity than the Sn-Pb alloy, which can avoid the loss of electrical signals on the solder joints and meet the requirements of electronic connection. It also has good compatibility. In the process of using indium-based solder, copper, tin, silver, gold, nickel and other coatings with PCB pads, component lead plating, and good soldering performance. Besides, it is compatible with different types of flux. Indium solder can prevent gold embrittlement. When soldering gold-plated products, if tin-based solder is used, the gold of the gold-plated component will be sucked, and a brittle metal compound will be formed. In this case, an indium-based solder is generally recommended. Prevent the loss and penetration of gold and enhance the reliability of solder joints. Due to its good wetting ability with non-metals, indium solder can be used in the welding of glass products, ceramics, quartz products, ceramics, etc. in electronics, low-temperature physics, vacuum systems. Its wide melting point region can produce different types of indium-based alloy products with melting points ranging from tens of degrees to more than 300 degrees according to different ratios, adapting to different fields.
